Glossary of Terms

Disk Space Storage (MB)
Determines the amount of information, which can be placed on the site, that resides on our server. You get plenty of disk space for your site with the ability to hold several hundred/thousands text pages or images depending on your package.

Data Transfer (Web Site Traffic)
The amount of network traffic related to your site. Every time a visitor views your site, data (bandwidth) is being transferred. Most of our packages include unlimited transfer (hits), which means you don't have to worry about extra charges.

An Easy-to-Use Web Based Unique Control Center with Management Tools
We provide all our clients with a web based Control Center, giving you the ability to manage, change, and configure all aspects of your account. With only a click of a mouse, you can administer your web space, your e-mail accounts, your directories, your cgi-bin, billing and all the special features that we offer you, such as site statistics, shopping carts and much more 24 hours a day. You can even add additional features (which are constantly updated), to your account right when you need them. You can access your Control Center from anywhere in the world and at anytime you wish. With this extraordinary tool you do not only gain control, but also the flexibility according to your particular needs.

Smart E-mail POP3 Accounts

E-mail Autoresponder
Automatically sends out a prepared message, upon a user's request. All one has to do is send an e-mail to a designated address. This service is extremely convenient for such things as sending out a company's price list. E-mail Forwarding
Allows you to forward all your incoming e-mail to an e-mail address you specify. Useful if you have a large number of e-mail addresses and don't want to check all of them separately. Mailing List
Mailing lists allow you to send e-mail to a large number of contacts in a very efficient manner. All you have to do is send a message to a designated address (as opposed to spam mail). You can manage the mailing list through the control center.

PGP
This option will allow you to set up your PGP key on the server. This allows you to use PGP in your scripts or with our PGPMail script. You must first have PGP installed on your local PC, and create a PGP key pair before uploading the key to the server.

True Domain Name

Domain Name Registration/Transfer Submission
We do not charge administration fees for registering your name with InterNIC. All you will have to pay is $49 for two years (30% less then most registrars charge) and you own that domain. To learn more…

Real Static IP Address
A static IP address means the number of your site never changes, which allows you to use it when transferring files, or pinging your site, etc. A static IP allows you to have a true domain name. All our accounts come with a static IP address.

Domain Pointer
Allows you to set up a redirection, so that the user that types in one URL will automatically be sent to another URL.

MIME Type Manager
The ability to manage mime types gives you full control of which software programs will work with your site. Mime types are managed through the Control Center.

Microsoft^® FrontPage^® extensions
Software installed on our server, which enables you to manage your web site using FrontPage (a popular tool for web site creation and management). All of our web hosting packages at no additional cost, fully support the latest FrontPage Server Extensions. To learn more…

File Manager
Allows you to create, delete and move all the files in your web site. You are able to create, delete, and move your files. You can also upload files from your local PC to our server in File Manager. Also, you can edit the HTML in any of your files from this option. Everything you need to manage your site can be found in this feature.

Smart Web Site Builder
Designing your web site has never been easier, even a beginner user will enjoy the power to create a web site in no time with this built-in tool. You have the flexibility to place headlines, body copy, graphics and photographs. You can even add animation to enliven your web sites without knowledge of HTML programming. Whether a business e-commerce site or a home hobby site, the site creation tool will give you the functionality to design and maintain your web presence all from within your browser. Detailed Web Site Statistics
Provides statistics about the visitors to your web site. You can receive an up to an 8-page analysis of your web site's visitors, at no extra charge. For example you can determine what areas most of your visitors come from (which will tell you where your advertising money is best spent), which pages are most popular and much more.

Access to Raw Log Files
WeHostWeb provides all our clients with access to their raw log files. The log files store the information of all requests made to their web site. They are the files used to calculate the web site statistics. Having access to the raw log files allows you to download them for archiving and allows you to run your own statistics software package on your own computer.

Archive Manager
Allows you to backup and compress your files. For example, if you have a number of files for which you wish to keep a backup, you can select all the files, then create a compressed backup.

Your Own CGI-BIN (Common gateway interface)
The ability to place your own programs on our servers, in the form of .exe modules. These programs are written using such programming languages as C, Perl, Visual Basic, etc. We encourage the development of highly interactive, successful sites.

Page Access Counter/Guest Book
WeHostWeb  provides a centralized CGI script that allows you to place counters, a guest book and more in your site. Installing an access counter, will give you a count of the visitors that have viewed your site. You can install them on as many pages as you choose at no extra charge.

PHP, Perl, C, SH, Java, Python
We have enjoyed being the clear choice for computer programmers building web sites. For this reason, we always give programmers the most recent versions of the hottest programs needed to build their web applications.

Telnet (SSH)
Telnet allows you to get a shell on our Linux servers. To ensure the security of our network and your web site, we do not allow Telnet. We do allow Telnet SSH. To use Telnet (SSH), we require the user to send us a fax with a copy of their photo ID requesting SSH. Users also need an RSA Key entered in the Control Center in order to access it. We also require the user to use SSH software.

Password Protected Pages
The ability to limit access to some areas within your site by using a password. When visitors click on a certain URL, they are requested to enter a username and password, which you manage through the Control Center.

Form to PGP mail
Similar to Form to E-mail, except your PGP (pretty good privacy) key is used to encrypt the message before sending it to you. Your PGP key is installed using your Control Center.

Form to E-mail
Our exceptional form to e-mail program takes the contents of a form submission and e-mail's you the results to the address you specify.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
After creating your web site, you need to transfer it to the live web server. You do this by using an FTP. We allow you to update your files 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world. Almost all site design programs like Adobe PageMill, Macromedia Dreamweaver, GoLive HotDog, Allaire HomeSite, CyberStudio, HotMetal Pro, Netscape Communicator and NetObjects Fusion use FTP to maintain your site.

Anonymous File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Anonymous FTP allows visitors to your site to download files via FTP without a password. It is disabled by default. Anonymous FTP is available on most packages at no extra charge.

SSL (Socket Security Layer) Encryption
In order to perform secure transactions on your website, you require SSL support. This service enables high-security communication between the user's browser and your site and is used, for instance, to transmit credit card information when shopping online. If you expect to receive confidential information through your web site, you require this service.

CyberCash Support
CyberCash is a third party online credit card processor. If you register with them, you can then install the local configurations for your domain on our servers with the control center.

MySQL Database
MySQL is our GNU database of choice. We develop all of our own products with MySQL or Oracle. We encourage all mSQL and postgresQL users to migrate to MySQL.

gdbm Database
A simple light standard UNIX database, which we support as well.

Server Side Includes (SSI)
SSI commands allow you to perform functions not available through HTML. Server Side Includes is a group of functions included directly in your HTML. A server translates these variable values in the HTML file before it sends it to the requestor. For example, with SSI you can embed the current date and time in your web page.

Shockwave
Macromedia Shockwave allows you to bring your web content to life. Shockwave support allows your site to host Shockwave content.

Flash
Macromedia Flash is the hottest way to bring your website to life, using fast loading vector-based animation and sound.

Midi Files
Midi is a great way to add sound to a web site without using lots of bandwidth. All the popular MIDI mime types are supported on our domain.

Real Audio
We support real audio/video streaming for no extra charge.

Real Video
We support Video streaming with the Real Video Mime type.

Better than T3 - Right to Backbone (Our Speed of Connection to the Internet)
The speed at which your web pages are loaded by the user's browser depends on this parameter. The higher the speed, the more users can access your site on a daily basis. We have no phone circuit, and do not use a Telecom link to get to the Internet; instead, we have an in-house connection directly to FGC's ATM fiber node. This fiber optic line can handle the bandwidth of a T3 or an OC3, and with FGC's Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology, it can handle several times the bandwidth of an OC3. The real Difference! 

99.9% Up Time
Our up time is 99.9%. This incredible uptime is mainly due to our heavy investment in hardware and facilities. We recognize, that down time is not an option for our servers.

24/7 Monitoring
All our servers are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, internally and externally, to ensure no service interruption.

Standby Servers
We keep back-up servers on-line of all CPU configurations. If a server experiences a hardware failure, we turn a key, grab the handle on the drive, pull it out, and insert it into an identical standby CPU. We would then reboot the second machine and the server would be up and running again in minutes.

Custom Built Web Servers
WeHostWeb's web servers are custom-built industrial machines designed for a 24/7 web-serving environment. All servers are equipped with dual redundant 450-watt power supplies, hot swap Seagate Barracuda/Cheetah drives and force-filtered cooling systems. In addition, our Network Operating Center (NOC) is equipped with an inventory of identically configured, burned-in standby servers.

Daily Data Backup
In case of an unforeseen service interruption, hosting equipment failure, this precaution enables us to restore the information from daily back-up copies and return the site to normal operation.

WeHostWeb's Data Center features raised flooring. This enables a constant flow of conditioned air and helps to maintain uniform room temperature at all times. Branded Nameserver
With your own personal nameserver you have complete management of your domain. Your whois InterNIC record will appear with ns.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com and you can add your own custom configurations to your nameserver using the Control Center. It is especially efficient for resellers and to companies wanting to convey the message of "having their own servers".

Search Engine for Your Site
In the control center you can specify which directories you want searchable by our high powered WAIS index and search utility. You can then provide users with lightning fast content.

Customizable Control Center
As a reseller, you can offer your clients their own Control Center so they can manage their accounts themselves. You can customize those Control Centers, for example, by placing your logo and name on them.

Ability to Add Domains
You can add additional domains at any time through your Control Center.

Ability to Park Domains
You can have more than one domain name resolving at the same IP number and content holding site. For example, you can park yourname.net to yourname.com.
